One Step at a Time

It's hard to believe that in just about two weeks, we will be gathering for worship at 25 Walnut on June 1st. Not just that, but for the first time in the history of the Lockport Campus, we will have two Sunday morning worship gatherings at 9:15am and 11:15am. This is going to be an amazing new chapter for the life of our congregation, and (more than that) for our ability to reach every man, woman, and child in Lockport with the Gospel.

Since March 1st, so much incredible work has been done by so many incredible people. I can't even believe how far we've come in that time, but it's all because we kept taking steps forward, even if those steps were small. A project of this magnitude can quickly feel overwhelming, but I've learned that any progress is good progress; you just have to keep moving. Of course, it helps to have amazing people working alongside you. For our Love Serves initiative on May 10th, we were thrilled to see the number of people who came out and catapulted us forward with their service. The bathrooms were all scrubbed from top-to-bottom, and the Nursery was given an enormous facelift. Thank you to everyone who helped make that a reality.

In several of the classrooms, we removed two layers of chalkboards from the walls – yes, you read that correctly. Chalkboards were originally built into the plaster walls, and then a second layer of chalkboards was added at some point in this building's history. We removed all of them (the length of that sentence is in extreme disproportion to the amount of time that project required), saving the best ones for future purposes, and disposing of some that were in poor condition. We literally had chalkboards everywhere. Many of you know about our church's partnership with Let Them LOL, which builds clean water wells (among many, many other things) in Sierra Leone, Africa. Recently, LTLOL built a school in Sierra Leone, and we became aware of a very tangible need this school has: chalkboards. What a coincidence. So within the month, these chalkboards will be hung on the walls of the  school in Sierra Leone.

Still, we have a lot of work to be done. For the week of May 18-24, we will need painters – particularly Monday-Wednesday. If you're available to help, please email me at jdrake@thechapel.com. Carpet is being professionally installed Wednesday and Thursday of this upcoming week (which is why we need paint to get on the walls!), and then we will need a general cleaning of the entire building during the final few days before June 1st. If you're available, we will find a place for you.

Finally, we want to remind everyone of the importance of our giving campaign. I've asked on Sunday mornings recently that we put some "skin in the game" and raise $25,000 (one-fourth of our renovating budget) between May and October of this year. That's just 20 weeks, but we can do it. Thank you to those who have contributed and pledged their commitment; we still need more of you to jump in and join us. We are always better together! You can give on Sundays, or directly from the home page of ForLockport.org or by going straight to thechapel.com/giving. Just make sure the designation is set to "Move to 25 Walnut" and it will end up in the right place.

And thanks also for your continued prayers and support. We've seen the impact of your prayer – so please don't quit!

Together for the Mission,
Jonathan
