Nearing the End

Eight days. Just eight. That's how many work days we have remaining until Opening Day at 25 Walnut on Sunday, June 1st. Only eight days to finish painting, carpeting, and furnishing each room. But with everything I've seen and experienced over the past sixty days, I know this is within reach.

The picture above is a panorama of the atrium. To see this space transformed has been incredible. We removed a wall, relocated another, added a doorway (the double doors on the right side of that picture), and completely repainted and recarpeted this space. I'm so excited to see people gathering around the café, stopping by at the Info Center, or heading into the Fireside Room. One thing we haven't had a lot of in the last four years is space for community – so we knew this needed to be a priority for our new facility. Community won't happen exclusively in rows; it happens when we stand around in circles holding coffee. Or spending time in prayer together. Or encouraging each other to take steps of faith in following Jesus. That's where we see community.

Worship center ramp and stairs

There are so many cool things that I can't wait for you to see in person. One is the accessible ramp and staircase we added to the hallway leading into the Worship Center (pictured above). It's not done yet, but our Potter's Hands ministry was instrumental in making this happen. When you walk into 25 Walnut – whether you saw it before the transformation or not – I think you will notice that it just feels like "ours." As more paint gets on the walls and more carpet is installed on the floors, there is an increasing sense of permanence. When you walk into the Worship Center for the first time, you'll know what I mean. This is the place where we will send out hundreds of people each week to be on mission. How exciting is that?!

But even though we are nearing the end, we're not out of the woods just yet. We need volunteers on Saturday, May 24 to help with more painting and general cleaning. On Sunday, May 25 (after our 10am worship gathering) we want to move as much out of the Historic Post Office as possible. If you have a truck, a large van, or a very spacious trunk, we need your help. If there is another time throughout the week that you're available to help out, message me at with the dates and times. You can count on someone being there every day between now and June 1st, and let me remind you: every little bit of serving is a huge help to us! Even if you can only swing by for an hour, you will make a difference.

Finally, thanks to all who have been a part of our giving campaign for 25 Walnut. We couldn't do this without you.
